This versatile gem has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5 and is found throughout the world, with larger deposits in Arizona, Kenya, Brazil, India, and Thailand. This gem can be actually a number of different chemical compositions. The more popular types of garnets include, Rhodolite, Grossular, and Spessartine. Garnets are typically red to dark red, but can also be shades of orange and green.
